Verge Policy - what can we plant?

Consultation has concluded

25 August 2019

Thank you to the 60 people who attended the verge workshop on Sunday 25 August with Josh Byrne and other speakers.

Our consultants Josh Byrne and Associations are now workikng through all the feedback to provide us with a refined draft of our verge policy, in an effort to make our verges more productive, sustainable and social.

Bckground

After significant discussions with the community, we drafted two verge policies and a set of guidelines and sought your input by 30 August 2019 about what should be permitted on our verges.

They are designed to help you green the verge in a safe and sustainable way by planting native gardens, waterwise gardens or edible gardens.

Our aim is to maximise the use of the verge while ensuring that you leave enough space for pedestrians, service utilities and trees. If you upgrade your verge in line with these guidelines and the Town’s Permissible Verge Treatment Policy, you do not need to seek the Town of Bassendean’s approval to upgrade the verge.

It's related to the "Act Local Think Global" philosophy of making verges more sustainable, productive and social spaces.
