Verge Policy - what can we plant?

25 August 2019

We're inviting you to a discussion with Gardening Australia's Dr Josh Byrne about making our verges more productive, sustainable and social.

Please register below to attend the free workshop on Sunday 25 August from 10am to noon at Swan Districts Football Club, Steel Blue Oval, Old Perth Road.

Tip: Arrive early and visit the markets which run in the main street from 9am to 1:30pm.

Why?

After significant discussions with the community, we've drafted two verge policies and a set of guidelines and want your input by 30 August 2019 about what should be permitted on our verges.

They are designed to help you green the verge in a safe and sustainable way by planting native gardens, waterwise gardens or edible gardens.

Read the information here and have your say by completing the survey below. Your privacy is important to us and all personal information will be treated confidentially.

Our aim is to maximise the use of the verge while ensuring that you leave enough space for pedestrians, service utilities and trees. If you upgrade your verge in line with these guidelines and the Town’s Permissible Verge Treatment Policy, you do not need to seek the Town of Bassendean’s approval to upgrade the verge.

It's related to the "Act Local Think Global" philosophy of making verges more sustainable, productive and social spaces.

Please provide your comment by 4pm Friday 30 August by:
