Whitfield Street Safe Active Street

Consultation has concluded

Safe active streets create quieter local roads and a safer environment for families, pedestrians and bike riders. With the speed limit reduced and the implementation of various traffic calming measures such as raised platforms and slow points, streets become much safer for the community to enjoy. Additional trees and greenery are also planted to provide a shade for street users and improve the visual appeal of the street.

February 2020

Construction will start in Whitfield Street in March/April 2020 to create a corridor between Guildford Road and Sandy Beach Reserve for safe cycling and walking. The work will improve road crossings along Whitfield Street, upgrade signage and add landscaping. The project is funded by the Department of Transport and managed by the Town of Bassendean.

To imagine what it will look like, see the indicative flyover video here.

Current status

We're finalising the design and have called tenders for its construction. Tenders close in early February.

Background

Activation of the route will be planned and delivered in collaboration with the Town, Department of Transport, local residents, schools and businesses.
